The Sharklife Conservation Internship has been designed to take individuals along an adventurous path to a well rounded understanding of the shark species. This program is suited to ocean lovers and aspiring marine biologists who are looking at acquiring additional experience in the field of shark behaviour, ecology and conservation.

Program Details:

Location Details:

Sodwana Bay is located in Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa. The village borders the pristine world heritage site known as the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The park is South Africa's third-largest protected area, spanning 280 km of coastline and is home to a magnificent diversity of marine life. Sodwana Bay is a short drive from the Big 5 uMkhuze Game Reserve which you can visit on your days off.

Your accommodation is on the same property as the Sharklife Ocean Center, it is from here that you will conduct your daily activities.

Some FAQ's

Who is Eligible?

- Over 18’s, in good health with an affinity for the ocean. 

Must I have a scuba qualification?

- No, the ocean practicals are all snorkel based (bubbles scare sharks!). 

What is the accommodation like?

- Your own single cabin room, self catering, linen supplied and serviced daily.

How do I get from the airport?

- We can arrange a pickup ($150) or you can hire a car ($25 per day). 

What's available in Sodwana Bay?

- Cash ATM's, Restaurants, Grocery Shop, Free Wifi, Laundry Service, Dive Shop.

Can I learn to Dive in Sodwana Bay?

- Yes, you can learn to Freedive and Scuba but you need extra time for that.

Will I see Big 5 Wild Game in Sodwana Bay?

- There are a number of Big 5 Game Reserves within 1hr of Sodwana Bay, day trips are easily organised.
