The Shark Biology Workshop enables participants to broaden their theoretical elasmobranch knowledge through unique practical exercises in the classroom, lab and ocean.

Workshop Components:


  • Register as a student on and complete the following:
    1. Shark Species course no.00
    2. Individual species courses no.01 - 05


  • Shark Snorkel Surveys 
    Snorkel based surveying enables participants to visit multiple sites and habitats, broadening the number of species encountered. (record species, size, behavior).
  • Classroom Practical
  • In the classroom participants review real specimens, models, videos and images as they progress through engaging practical worksheets.
  • Laboratory Practical
    In the laboratory participants examine shark and ray specimens as they learn about the sensory biology, form and function of different elasmobranch species.

  • What do I get from the workshop?

    The workshop focuses on practical exercises, using real specimens, models and worksheets. This is different from traditional shark courses which are often lecture based.

    The in-water components are on snorkel which give a broader perspective into shark behavior and increase the chance of encounters.

    Most importantly, and this cannot be stressed enough, diver groups are limited to max 4 per launch.
